The Great Debate

7th January 2026

Pheasant Class enjoyed a very busy start to the Spring Term with the launch of their new learning journey, ‘The Great Debate’. We began with an exciting trip to Chichester Conservancy, where the children explored the environmental issues currently affecting the local area.

The children were then split into groups, each taking on different roles to plan and organise a debate on whether or not dogs should be banned from public footpaths. The second half of the day saw the children travel to Chichester County Hall, where they chaired and participated in a real debate.

It was a fantastic experience that allowed the children to explore their local area and discuss real-life environmental challenges. Feeling inspired and motivated, the children each chose one environmental aspect of the local area and created a piece of persuasive writing to share with their peers.
