Mental Health & Wellbeing

Mental Health and Wellbeing at Lavant Primary School

At Lavant Primary School, we believe that children thrive when they feel happy, secure, and valued. That’s why supporting the mental health and wellbeing of every member of our school community is a top priority. We understand that positive mental health is essential for children and young people to flourish and lead fulfilling lives, both now and in the future.

A Whole-School Approach to Wellbeing

We have adopted a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing, ensuring that it is a central part of our school culture. By creating an environment that promotes openness and understanding, we encourage pupils, staff, and parents to talk about emotional challenges. Recognising and addressing these challenges early is key to fostering resilience and supporting long-term wellbeing.

Our commitment includes:

  • Promoting mental health as part of everyday school life for pupils and staff.

  • Recognising that everyone may face life challenges that affect emotional wellbeing and that support is essential for those moments.

  • Valuing everyone as a core Christian principle, ensuring that each individual in our school feels supported and heard.

Support for Resilience and Wellbeing

Our core wellbeing approach is designed to support every child’s resilience and emotional health. We offer a variety of programs and activities to help children develop the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges Includes our PSHE curriculum, calm club and worry boxes.

Additionally, we provide targeted support for those who may need extra help, ensuring that each child’s needs are met with compassion and understanding. Whether it is by making adaptation to the daily routine to accommodation regulation breaks; offering one to one or groups session with our school ELSAs to provide boost their need or accessing the support they need through our SENCo. Lavant we value each child and their individual need.

If you would like to access additional support for your child, please email your class teacher or nellis@lavant.w-sussex.sch.uk

Supporting Parents/Carer

We believe that working in partnership with parents is vital for nurturing children’s emotional and mental health. We offer resources and support for parents, helping families create a consistent, nurturing environment both at home and at school.

We also appreciate the struggles and joys that exist with parenting, so in addition to Parent/Carer workshops and wellbeing events, please explore resources for parents below.

At Lavant Primary School, we are here to ensure that all pupils and staff have the support they need to thrive, and we are committed to fostering a community where everyone’s mental wellbeing matters.
