KS1 Trip to Arundel Castle

18th October 2024

Sunshine and clear blue skies facilitated a superb experience day out to Arundel Castle for Year 1 and 2 children.  Alongside brilliantly behaved children, enthusiastic, volunteer parent helpers and two highly engaging, well informed tour leaders it was a thoroughly enjoyable day to remember for everyone involved.

Arundel Castle is a fabulous example of a Norman built Motte and Bailey style castle that has been extended to over time.  Our future historians - the children were able to dress up as castle characters from the past.  They then fully embraced the opportunity to be expertly guided around the parts of the castle that they had been learning the names of and the past purpose for in their lesson time.  Views out from the Keep across the Arun valley and out to sea were magnificent, the splendor of the Baron’s Hall and the Banqueting Hall were remarkable, and the legends told in the Armoury of Sir Bevis, as well as the history taught in Matilda’s bedroom were exciting and memorable.

Ever respectful and showing their best, the children were allowed through the private gardens of the current castle owner - the 18th Duke of Norfolk, and ended the day in the spectacular public gardens of the castle in the impressively landscaped stumpery amongst a multi-layered riot of autumnal colours!
