Cochlear Ear plants

29th November 2023
Woodpecker Class spoke about the cochlea’s impact on hearing. They discussed how it is a snail like structure filled with fluid. When vibrations reach the cochlea, the fluid activates the hair cells which convert the vibrations to electrical signals where they can be sent down the auditory nerve to the brain. We then spoke about how cochlear implants sends a message straight to the auditory nerve and hearing aids amplify the vibrations to help people hear. We demonstrated our learning in a physical model.

With Children in school with these hearing devices, we felt it was important that the rest of the children learnt how they worked to give them a better understanding.
