Link with Japan
We are very proud of our friendship and informal twinning partnership with Hirabari Minami School in Nagoya, Japan. Through this unique link, the children in our school have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of Japanese language and culture, increasing their awareness of diversity in our World. The link was launched in 2012 with a Japanese Arts Week and since then, many of our children have enjoyed talking to the children in Japan via Skype, and exchanging gifts and examples of their work.
The Skype sessions always take a little organising and an early start for us, to cope with the time difference with Japan, but they are always great fun. We've even given the Japanese school a mini online Christmas carol concert!
Last year we were delighted to welcome Mr Shinya Hamada, who is a parent of a child at Hirabari Minami, to Lavant School. He spent the day looking around the school and talking to children about school life in Japan.
The children are really enjoying learning to speak and write some Japanese phrases and are always really excited by learning about aspects of Japanese culture, particularly Manga art!
We hope you enjoy our gallery of pictures showing some of the Japanese link activities.
