New Term... New Beginnings?
5th January 2021
Happy New Year
As our children return for the start of the spring term today we focus on the positives during these unsettled times. Our new ‘normal’ school life continues all the while we are allowed to do so, and our amazing staff team continue to provide exciting and rich learning opportunities for our pupils. UPDATED: So once again we are in lockdown with the school closed with the exception of Keyworker and Vulnerable Children. Not what we had hoped for but in these struggling times, its best to keep everyone safe.
Rector David Jarrett has continued to come into school to take a whole school assembly. All children, and staff wrap up warm in hats, coats etc and we socially distance on the school playing ground. We are grateful to David for maintaining these important occasions as a church of England school. During this latest lockdown they will continue via zoom.
Forest School has also remained in place whilst maintaining the social distance with the organisers. A year group per term walk over to Lavant House Grounds each week to learn a new craft or skill. I think they have all enjoyed a toasted marshmallow at some point!
We are continually trying to find new ways to enrich the learning experience within the COVID-19 boundaries. This week Robin class kicked off their new topic with a winter walk round the school fields looking for new growth and wildlife. We are very lucky to have the surrounding around us to be able to have this option. Now with the help of modern technology (when it works) we are learning online with video links, and inter-house online programmes – both great tools.
Sadly, like most, a lot of our community events have been cancelled which means opportunities to raise much needed funds have been greatly reduced. Huge thanks go to The Friends of Lavant for holding a virtual Christmas Raffle. Where for the first time ever all the tickets were sold and over £1,000 was raised. This money is being put towards updating some of our school technology including reconditioned laptops and a new interactive TV screen for our children in Wren Class (Early years) This is being installed as we go to press!
We have missed being able to welcome you, the wider community into school, and the support that you have given us over the years. If you feel you can still support us do contact the school office, even if they are just with kind words. Together we pray for each other, and hope that this year turns around, and we are able to open our doors to you again in the near future.
